A lot of number go into an EveryDollar budget, so it's important to know the differences between Planned, Spent, and Remaining. You can learn all about each of them here.
Planned
Planned is the amount of money you set aside for your various Budget Items during the month. That includes your mortgage or rent payment, groceries, your smart phone, that beach vacay you're saving for next summer, and so on.
The "Planned" amounts directly affect the message along the top of the screen. It will either say you have a certain amount Left to Budget, or are Over Budget, or it will say "It's an EveryDollar Budget". If you have money left to budget, increase the Planned amount of one or more expenses or Fund lines.
If it says you're over budget, either decrease the Planned amount of one or more expenses, or find ways to increase your Planned income such as extra jobs. If it says "It's an EveryDollar budget", then you are set. Do a happy dance and stick to the budget!
Spent
Spent is how much you've tracked towards expenses this month.
The "Spent" section is edited by tracking a transaction, which you can enter either manually or with bank connect.
Remaining
Remaining is the amount left to spend this month. It's basically the difference between Planned and Spent.
As you look at your EveryDollar budget during the month, keep an eye on the Remaining number for each Budget Item. That helps you pace your spending for things like restaurants, groceries, etc.
Pro Tip: Paycheck Planning affects the "Remaining" section according to the schedule that is created. There is a "Safe to Spend" feature that can be toggled on/off in the settings of your mobile app and on the computer version of EveryDollar at everydollar.com.
