Funds & Account Balancer: Connect Accounts to Funds and Track Balance
I currently manage non-monthly expenses (such as property taxes, insurance, and maintenance) by allocating monthly amounts within the budget and maintaining a separate savings account where the actual funds are held. While I can approximate this in EveryDollar using categories or “funds,” there is no way to accurately track the real balance of money that has been set aside over time.
As a workaround, I assign monthly amounts and log expenses when they occur, but this does not provide visibility into how much has actually accumulated in savings or how much is available for each specific expense.
I’ve also seen similar requests around sinking funds, and I’d like to highlight that the key need is not just grouping categories, but the ability to reflect real savings behavior within the app.
Ideally, EveryDollar would allow users to:
- Link or mirror a dedicated savings account used for non-monthly expenses
- Create individual funds within that structure (e.g., property taxes, insurance, maintenance)
- Track a true running balance for each fund over time
- Automatically reduce the fund balance when an expense is recorded
- Clearly show progress toward upcoming obligations
This would eliminate the need for external tracking and provide a more accurate and intuitive way to manage irregular expenses directly within EveryDollar. It would significantly improve my ability to rely on the app as a complete budgeting and planning tool.
