Using Funds on EveryDollar Web
- In the Fund Details: "Starting Balance" has been changed to "Original Balance".
- In the Fund Activity This Month: "Starting Balance" has been changed to "Carryover Balance".
The Original Balance is the amount you originally began your Fund with. If you change this amount, this amount will be updated in all budget months that this Fund exists. So if you began this Fund in August and enter an Original Balance of $200. The number will be the same for all budget months, it's the original fund balance.
The Carryover Balance is the Fund balance you are carrying forward from the previous month. To add more money to the Fund, simply enter a Planned amount for the Fund Budget Item. So if my Carryover Balance is $100 and I want to save $100 this month, I'll add to my Fund by placing $100 in the Planned amount for that Fund. The Fund Balance will then be $200.
What if my Carryover Balance is incorrect?
You might have missed a transaction in the previous month or have interest that was not reflected in a transaction. To correct the Carryover Balance, you will need to create a transaction to represent the positive or negative adjustment.
For example, if the Carryover Balance is $0 but it should have been $100, simply create a +$100 transaction and then assign it to this Fund. This will update the overall Fund balance to include your adjustment.
